The youth team opened the championship playoff with a win, decided by Talmi. Next week: the derby.

Hapoel’s youth team hosted Beitar Jerusalem on Saturday in Round 18 of the Youth Premier League, which kicked off the championship playoff matches.

On the brink of halftime, Hapoel launched a counterattack. Alon Moskovitz played a brilliant through ball to Ron Talmi, who finished first-time to score his ninth league goal of the season and seal the final result.

An emotional moment followed the goal, as all the players went to celebrate with fitness coach Gabriel Trakyalov, who today marks one year since the passing of his father.

Shahar Wizinger’s side sits top of the table with 43 points from a possible 54, six points clear of second-placed Maccabi Haifa. Next Saturday they will host the Tel Aviv derby at Bat Yam Stadium; the final kickoff time will be announced later.

Played for Hapoel: Ynal Bazadog, Yarin Shyovitz, Elad Ben Shimon, Giorgi Koperba, Elay Mori, Itamar Hosid, Idan Kapellner, Alon Moskovitz, Ravid Olezki, Shaham Nahum (Omri Levy, 61’), Ron Talmi (Henly Agbo, 80’)
