Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv was defeated 2–1 this evening in the Toto Cup Final against Beitar Jerusalem. Savy Turiel scored for Hapoel.
Hapoel set aside its league campaign to face Beitar Jerusalem this evening (Tuesday) at Sammy Ofer Stadium in the Toto Cup Final — the club’s fourth-ever appearance in the competition’s final.
The match opened with cautious play from both sides, but the advantage gradually shifted to Beitar, who took the lead in the 34th minute to make it 1–0 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Eliniv Barda made three substitutions to refresh the squad and spark a comeback. The changes did bring energy to the Reds, who created two excellent scoring opportunities early in the half, but neither was converted.
In the 62nd minute, Hapoel conceded a second goal on a counterattack, making the comeback even more difficult.
In stoppage time, in the 99th minute, Savy Turiel scored a fine individual goal to reduce the deficit, but it wasn’t enough. Final score: 2–1 to Beitar.
Hapoel’s next match will take place this Saturday (November 1), when the team hosts Ironi Tiberias at Bloomfield Stadium in Matchday 9 of the Israeli Premier League. Kickoff at 17:30.
