A football tournament was held in memory of a club supporter who was murdered three years ago. A team representing the club finished in second place

This morning (Friday), a soccer tournament was held in Kfar Saba in memory of the city’s residents, Tomer Morad and Eitam Magini.

Tomer, a Hapoel Tel Aviv supporter, and Eitam, a Hapoel Kfar Saba supporter, childhood friends from Kfar Saba, went out together on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv on the evening of 7/4/2022. In a despicable terror attack, both were murdered along with another civilian. They were 27 at the time of their deaths.

Tomer, of blessed memory, was a devoted Hapoel fan who regularly sat in Gate 5 at the team’s matches. Thousands of supporters wearing red shirts attended his funeral, and the ceremony held in his memory at the first home match after his murder is forever etched in our minds.

The tournament, held for the third consecutive year in cooperation with the Morad and Magini families, "Medinat HaKaduregel" and the Kfar Saba Municipality, took place at the training pitch next to Levita Stadium. Representing the club were team manager Salim Toama, technical director Omer Buksenbaum, former players Avihay Yadin, Avi Azulai and Dan Einbinder, and several club employees.

Hapoel finished the group stage in first place thanks to two wins and one draw. In the quarterfinals, Hapoel beat the Reservists Team 2:1 - many of whom were Tomer’s fellow soldiers. In the semifinals, Hapoel defeated the Artists Team 2:0, with a low free kick by Salim Toama and a beautiful full-pitch goal by Avihay Yadin at the final whistle.

In the final, Hapoel faced Hapoel Kfar Saba 1928, made up of active Liga Alef players, in 12 minutes of play under pouring rain - and lost 5:3 despite goals by Salim Toama and Dan Einbinder.

Tomer’s sister, Tal Morad, said at the opening of the tournament: “What’s happening here today reflects exactly who Tomer and Itay were: family, friends, and football. Thank you all for coming, and may the best team win”.
