Historic Encounters

The first Toto Cup meeting between the sides took place on November 30, 1993, during the fifth round of the group stage. Hapoel hosted Beitar at Bloomfield Stadium, fell behind in the 27th minute, but equalized through Yehuda Amar in the 52nd minute to end 1:1.

Over the years, Hapoel enjoyed several sweet moments against Beitar in the competition, including two matches in which the Reds scored four goals.
The first came on October 4, 1997, also in the group stage, when Hapoel celebrated a 4:0 win thanks to goals from Ofer Shitrit (penalty 23’, 61’), Pini Balili (31’), and Damien Gaiser (38’).

Another memorable win came on August 7, 2005, when Hapoel thrashed Beitar 4:1 at Bloomfield Stadium. Baruch Dego (28’), Assi Domb (51’), John Paintsil (53’), and Elyaniv Barda (62’) were the scorers.

The most recent Toto Cup encounter between the sides was on August 13, 2022, in the fourth round of the group stage. Once again, Bloomfield was painted red as Hapoel won 2–1 with goals from Kais Ghanem (65’) and Alen Ozbolt (69’).

Hapoel in Toto Cup Finals

Hapoel has made three previous appearances in Toto Cup finals at the Premier League level, winning the title once (the club also won the Toto Cup in the second division last season).

The lone top-flight Toto Cup triumph came on May 14, 2002, when Hapoel defeated M.S. Ashdod 4:2 at Ramat Gan Stadium. Goals by Ben Luz (39’), Kfir Udi (44’), Salim Toama (61’) and an own goal (85’) secured the Reds’ first trophy in the competition.

A year later, Hapoel returned to the final but lost 2:0 to Maccabi Haifa, also at Ramat Gan.

The club’s third appearance in the final was on January 24, 2012, against Ironi Kiryat Shmona. After a dramatic 1–1 draw following 120 minutes — Mahmoud Abbas equalized in the 98th minute — the match was decided by penalties, where Hapoel fell 4–3.
