Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv will host Ironi Tiberias tomorrow (Saturday, 17:30) at Bloomfield Stadium, as part of the ninth round of the Winner League.

During the match, the club will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with the players wearing pink shirts, the international color symbolizing the fight against the disease. Before kickoff, a ceremony will be held with the participation of several women who have recovered from breast cancer, in collaboration with the “One in Nine” organization.

We’ll need to be in the game from the very first second to get back on the winning track”.

Founded in 1994, “One in Nine” supports women with breast cancer and their families, providing emotional and practical assistance through volunteers who have recovered from the disease, as well as professional guidance, information, and advocacy. The organization promotes awareness campaigns and educational programs on early detection and prevention. It is Israel’s oldest and leading organization dedicated to women battling breast cancer and their loved ones.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in Israel, accounting for about one-third of new cancer cases. According to the Israel Cancer Association, by the end of 2025 approximately 5,730 new cases will be diagnosed-an average of 16 per day-and around 1,000 women are expected to die from the disease each year. Early detection through mammography is highly encouraged, with participation rates above 70% in recent years. Prevention, early screening, and genetic monitoring remain key factors in the fight against breast cancer.

Hapoel set aside its league campaign to face Beitar Jerusalem this evening (Tuesday) at Sammy Ofer Stadium in the Toto Cup Final — the club’s fourth-ever appearance in the competition’s final.

The match opened with cautious play from both sides, but the advantage gradually shifted to Beitar, who took the lead in the 34th minute to make it 1–0 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Eliniv Barda made three substitutions to refresh the squad and spark a comeback. The changes did bring energy to the Reds, who created two excellent scoring opportunities early in the half, but neither was converted.
In the 62nd minute, Hapoel conceded a second goal on a counterattack, making the comeback even more difficult.
In stoppage time, in the 99th minute, Savy Turiel scored a fine individual goal to reduce the deficit, but it wasn’t enough. Final score: 2–1 to Beitar.

Hapoel and Beitar have met 15 times in the Toto Cup over the years, but tonight a new chapter will be written — it’s the first-ever final between the two historic rivals in this competition.
In honor of the occasion, we revisited some memorable encounters from the past in Israel’s third-most prestigious competition.
Overall Record:
15 matches
5 Hapoel wins
4 draws
6 Beitar wins
Goal difference: 17:16 in Beitar’s favor
The first Toto Cup meeting between the sides took place on November 30, 1993, during the fifth round of the group stage. Hapoel hosted Beitar at Bloomfield Stadium, fell behind in the 27th minute, but equalized through Yehuda Amar in the 52nd minute to end 1:1.
Over the years, Hapoel enjoyed several sweet moments against Beitar in the competition, including two matches in which the Reds scored four goals.
The first came on October 4, 1997, also in the group stage, when Hapoel celebrated a 4:0 win thanks to goals from Ofer Shitrit (penalty 23’, 61’), Pini Balili (31’), and Damien Gaiser (38’).

Another memorable win came on August 7, 2005, when Hapoel thrashed Beitar 4:1 at Bloomfield Stadium. Baruch Dego (28’), Assi Domb (51’), John Paintsil (53’), and Elyaniv Barda (62’) were the scorers.

The most recent Toto Cup encounter between the sides was on August 13, 2022, in the fourth round of the group stage. Once again, Bloomfield was painted red as Hapoel won 2–1 with goals from Kais Ghanem (65’) and Alen Ozbolt (69’).

Hapoel has made three previous appearances in Toto Cup finals at the Premier League level, winning the title once (the club also won the Toto Cup in the second division last season).
The lone top-flight Toto Cup triumph came on May 14, 2002, when Hapoel defeated M.S. Ashdod 4:2 at Ramat Gan Stadium. Goals by Ben Luz (39’), Kfir Udi (44’), Salim Toama (61’) and an own goal (85’) secured the Reds’ first trophy in the competition.

A year later, Hapoel returned to the final but lost 2:0 to Maccabi Haifa, also at Ramat Gan.
The club’s third appearance in the final was on January 24, 2012, against Ironi Kiryat Shmona. After a dramatic 1–1 draw following 120 minutes — Mahmoud Abbas equalized in the 98th minute — the match was decided by penalties, where Hapoel fell 4–3.
A press conference was held ahead of the Toto Cup Final: “We’re facing an excellent opponent, and we want to be the ones celebrating at the end of the night”
Head coach Elyaniv Barda and defender Shahar Piven shared their thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 20:30) Toto Cup Final at Sammy Ofer Stadium.
“Thirteen years without a title? I don’t really feel it,” opened the coach. “Hapoel Tel Aviv is a big club that wants to get back to competing for trophies, and that’s something we’re working to normalize”.

On the opponent, Beitar Jerusalem: “We’re playing against a very good team. We faced them in the league this season, and it was an even, intense match. We know who we’re up against, we know it’s a game for a title, and we’ll try to give everything”.
Regarding the absence of Fernand Mayembo, who will serve a suspension: “Tomorrow, it’s still 11 versus 11 at kickoff. Mayembo is suspended, but I’m confident whoever replaces him will do a great job. Shahar Piven is set to wear the captain’s armband tomorrow”.
On the number of goals conceded this season, Barda said: “We’ve conceded 11 goals so far - that’s a lot for the defensive style we want to play. We’re working on it, trying to maintain what’s good and improve what isn’t. Tomorrow, of course, we’ll aim to keep a clean sheet”.
Shahar Piven: “We can really feel our fans - at home and away. They’re hungry for success, wins, and trophies. Our job is to repay them on the pitch. I hope the better team wins - and that it’s us. We know what needs fixing and we’re preparing ourselves in the best physical and tactical way”.
The defender, who will captain the team tomorrow, added: “It’s a great honor to be captain of Hapoel Tel Aviv. It’s a huge privilege and I’m grateful for the trust. I believe I have the tools and experience to help lead the way professionally. We have a tough task ahead of us tomorrow, we’ll need to unite, and I hope we’ll be the ones celebrating at the end of the night”.

Hapoel arrived at the Netanya Stadium accompanied by the Red Army in the stands, looking to return to winning ways after last week’s derby was canceled.

Throughout most of the match, Hapoel completely dominated play, created numerous scoring chances, and dictated the tempo, but poor finishing in front of goal prevented the team from taking the lead.
Already in the first half, the Red Devils recorded 12 attempts on goal, but none found the back of the net.
In the second half, Hapoel continued to press and control the game, but in the 69th minute, team captain Fernand Mayembo was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Netanya took advantage of the numerical superiority, scoring in the 71st minute to make it 1–0, and added another goal in stoppage time to seal the 2–0 victory.
After eight league rounds, Hapoel sits in fourth place in the Premier League table with 13 points and a goal difference of 15:11.

The team’s head coach and captain spoke at a press conference ahead of the match against Maccabi Netanya: “We’ll need to approach it with the same focus and readiness we had before the derby”
Ahead of Saturday’s (October 25, 20:00) match against Maccabi Netanya at Netanya Stadium, head coach Elyaniv Barda and captain Fernand Mayembo met with the media to share their thoughts following the cancellation of the Tel Aviv derby and their preparation for the upcoming game.
Head coach Elyaniv Barda opened by addressing the canceled derby: “To be honest, I didn’t even make it out to the pitch - I was still in the coaches’ room at the time. We came fully prepared and focused for the derby, and all along we wanted it to be played and decided on the field. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen that evening. The club’s representatives are handling the matter”.

“I believe that this match is the best thing Israeli football has to offer - in terms of exposure and public interest,” the coach added. “Football must protect its best product, which is the Tel Aviv derby, and it has to be decided on the pitch - no question about it”.
When asked about shifting focus from the canceled match to the next one, he said: “At the end of the day, we’re here to talk about the upcoming match against Maccabi Netanya. Some things are in our control, and some aren’t — what’s in our control right now is what will happen on Saturday. We have to disconnect from what happened and prepare in the best possible way. The derby’s cancellation doesn’t change our preparation; we want to come into this one with the same intensity we had on Sunday.”
On the upcoming opponent: “Netanya are a strong side - they earned a well-deserved win at Sammy Ofer last week. They have a deep squad and good quality, and we’ll arrive ready. The last match between the teams? This one won’t be the same - both we and Netanya have changed significantly since then.”
On the team’s long-term goals: “We’re in matchday eight - for us it’s the seventh - and we’re not looking too far ahead. We just want to keep collecting points, play good football, stay on our path, and represent the club with pride. This isn’t the time to think about how the table looks”.
On player fitness: “We had a few players dealing with minor issues before the derby, and now they’ve had a few extra days to recover. I can promise that we’ll always have 11 fit players on the pitch - everyone who plays will be at 100%”.
Team captain Fernand Mayembo opened his remarks by addressing the fans regarding the derby incident: “I want to tell our amazing fans that we’re with you in all of this. We’re together — if something happened, it happened to all of us”.
“I’m proud to be the captain of Hapoel Tel Aviv,” he added. “I’m happy with my role and the responsibility that comes with it”.
On the upcoming match against Maccabi Netanya: “We’re coming to win - I don’t know any other option. Our goals are clear: we want to win every match and finish as high as possible”.
